Summertime and the living is easy. Right?
Not for many of us. My summer so far has been fun, but certainly not lying in a hammock with a cool drink in my hand.
In
mid May we went to Europe for six weeks. I met with various producers
and editors in London and then signed books at the Warsaw bookfair in
Poland. My books are published in Polish but I was gobsmacked (as they
say in UK) when I spotted a whole bookstore window displaying my books
at THE OLDEST BOOKSTORE IN EUROPE.
After
that it was vacation time: a few days in Rome, a brilliant cruise up
the Adriatic coast and then some kicking back time in the Dordogne in
France before more work in England.
As
soon as I got home I had to start work on the next Georgie book that I
am calling Malice at the Palace. Do you like the title? It features a
royal wedding ( a real one). And a fictitious corpse. And lots of
hijinks at Kensington Palace where Kate and Will now live.
But
just when I was going full steam ahead real life intervened, in the
form of my son's wedding. We had relatives arriving from across the
world and went up to a remote mountain site where we slept in yurts. We
hosted the rehearsal dinner at a restaurant on the lake and the ceremony
took place among tall pine trees. Very lovely.
No
sooner was that over but I have to do edits on my next Molly book, due
out next spring and called THE EDGE OF DREAMS. Here is a sneak peek at
the cover. What do you think?
And in less than two weeks, on August 5th, my next Lady Georgie book, QUEEN OF HEARTS, is published.
I am taking Georgie across the Atlantic and winding up in Hollywood. It
was such fun to satirize the excesses of Hollywood in the 30s. And a
few real movie stars make cameo appearances. Of course Darcy shows up,
and Georgie's naughty mother and her hopeless maid.... and a jewel thief
and a body. It's one big romp and already has a starred review from
Publisher's Weekly and four and a half stars from RT Reviews. What a
great start.
I won't be doing a big tour this time, just the West Coast essentially. Here is the schedule:
August 5 7.pm Book Passage, Corte Madera. Launch party with champagne and goodies.
August 6, 5:30 Copperfield's Santa Rosa. Dinner and book talk.
August 7, 7 p.m. Mysterious Galaxy, San Diego, CA.
August 8 2:30 p.m. Book Carnival, Orange, CA
August 8, 7 p.m. Vroman's Bookstore, Pasadena, CA
August 9th 2 p.m. Poisoned Pen, Scottsdale, AZ
If you plan to come, please recheck the times with the stores as they do change.
And
if you can't come and would like a personalized signed book, you can
contact any of the above stores and they will have me sign and ship one
to you. Poisoned Pen especially does this very well.
And
if you like listening to the audio version of my books, Audible will be
releasing this around the same day the book comes out. Again with the
fabulous Katherine Kellgren reading it.
Which
brings me to another piece of good news. Katherine won the Audie award
for best female narrator for reading The Twelve Clues of Christmas. She
even beat out Meryl Streep. Yay Katy!
And
for those of you who have asked about the status of the Royal Spyness
movie--all I can tell you is that it's progressing slowly. They have
just taken a new script writer on board and we hope that the script is
finally what they want and we can go into production. Of course I'll
keep you updated. I should have other exciting snippets of news to share
next time I write to you!
