When Alexander Westcott becomes the new Earl of Riverdale, he inherits a title he never wanted and a failing country estate he can’t afford. But he fully intends to do everything in his power to undo years of neglect and give the people who depend on him a better life. . . .
A recluse for more than twenty years, Wren Heyden wants one thing out of life: marriage. With her vast fortune, she sets her sights on buying a husband. But when she makes the desperate—and oh-so-dashing—earl a startlingly unexpected proposal, Alex will only agree to a proper courtship, hoping for at least friendship and respect to develop between them. He is totally unprepared for the desire that overwhelms him when Wren finally lifts the veils that hide the secrets of her past. .
Always the story weaver Balogh does a fantastic job of creating a Cinderella love story with the adage of Alex's journey.
I liked the process of the h/h learning to love instead of the insta-love even with the attraction including the reasons they married to begin with.
These historicals Balogh writes are a relief from many other genres because its not always the instant swoon, instant love, instant everything without a single thought to creating a foundation for its main couple. If Wren and Alex had been all over it from the get go I don't think I would have stuck along for the rest of the book but Balogh didn't fail me.
I love the cover art, I love the story and the characters Balogh creates in Someone to Wed there are just a few things that kept me from completely falling in love that I felt were more of a me thing rather than an issue in the book which kept me rating it with more stars however that doesn't take from how much I enjoyed the rest of it.
Love the Westcotts.
Until next time book lovers...
