Internationally acclaimed crime writer Jo Nesbø’s antihero police investigator, Harry Hole, is back: in a bone-chilling thriller that will take Hole to the brink of insanity.
Oslo in November. The first snow of the season has fallen. A boy named Jonas wakes in the night to find his mother gone. Out his window, in the cold moonlight, he sees the snowman that inexplicably appeared in the yard earlier in the day. Around its neck is his mother’s pink scarf.
Hole suspects a link between a menacing letter he’s received and the disappearance of Jonas’s mother—and of perhaps a dozen other women, all of whom went missing on the day of a first snowfall. As his investigation deepens, something else emerges: he is becoming a pawn in an increasingly terrifying game whose rules are devised—and constantly revised—by the killer.
Fiercely suspenseful, its characters brilliantly realized, its atmosphere permeated with evil, The Snowman is the electrifying work of one of the best crime writers of our time.

The Snowman was my first Nesbo book and even though its the seventh book in his Harry Hole series (interesting character name choice) it wasn't difficult to follow along. Even though I have a feeling I was missing some bits of information that may have carried over from previous installments I don't think it was mandatory to know them to invest in this story.
I'm rather surprised with the graphic detail that was written into quite a few of the more.. disturbing scenes (dark muse alert) but it wasn't hard to guess the who and why when its pretty much given away close to the beginning of the book.
I did get a laugh from the intimacy scenes - honestly, some men shouldn't write about sex. That little failed nugget aside I'd be surprised if this author hadn't killed someone before because he taps into the mentality almost too perfectly.
Hole is an odd character that makes references to a lot of things in a cultural sense that I don't think he really understands which makes some of the things he thinks or says feel a little disjointed yet despite that I'm a little intrigued by this odd man. Determined Hole uncovers a connection to an on going killers spree he has to prove isn't just random but part of an entire slew of murders tied to the Snowman.
Its a tad creepy at times a little boring in others but Nesbo manages to tap into some dark spectrums of detail few writers are willing to explore. All in all The Snowman was a decent read.
I read The Snowman after receiving a recommendation from Tigus.
