Review:
Another Me
A teenager finds her perfect life upended when she's stalked by a mysterious doppelganger who has her eyes set on assuming her identity.
My Thoughts:
Another Me mixes several mythologies into one movie. Its a decent movie but it drags for the largest portion of it. While this is meant to build up the anticipation of its surprise (not so surprising) ending, took too long to get there for my tastes.
Another Me has a similar story line to several other films I've seen before circling around the lost soul theory and the doppelganger mythologies in horror films.
Lost Soul theory is typically based on twins born in a womb where one is usually lost during or after pregnancy and the lost twin typically lashes out at the surviving one due to anger or jealousy or simply survival instinct.
The Doppelganger theory is usually the supernatural myth/omen that when you see your double you die.
However there is also the inkling in the beginning that its the starting process of a split personality disorder.
In the end its a mix of all three until you realize its mostly just about the "evil" twin wanting to take over her sisters life. After several secrets and attacks are uncovered, que abrupt surprise (not that surprising) twist ending.
I enjoyed the movie but it took too long to reach its conclusion, and although it was creative it just felt like it was trying to be too many things at once.
I also liked seeing this side of Sophie Turners acting because it shows she has more depth than just minor typical game of thrones innocence in her acting spectrum but I would have liked to see something just a bit more than the overly depressive personality we got in the film.
My Rating:
2 Stars
