Movie Night: Vampire Knight

Review:

Vampire Knight

Vampire Knight tells the story of Yuki Cross. The earliest thing she remembers is being attacked on a snowy night by a vampire, and being rescued by Kaname Kuran, who is also a vampire. The story takes place 10 years after that event, Yuki is now the adopted daughter of the Headmaster of Cross Academy. She and her longtime friend Zero Kiryu keep peace at the academy, making sure no problems arise between the Day Class (humans) and the Night Class (vampires). However, the peace they try to keep is fragile, and personal feelings begin to interrupt their duty.

Based on the manga by Matsuri Hino

Could use more screen time for the Night Class using their abilities which you get little glimpses of but the show is mainly about Yuki regaining the memory of her past anyway.

Many readers of the Vampire Knight manga series understands the future relationships between Yuki, Zero, and Kaname and where they end up but few get such a detailed exploration of their beginnings. That's where this series comes in. Although Yuki is slightly annoying in the overly dramatic and childishly dependent way the one character I wound up liking the most was Zero because in the end he was the least crazy one of the bunch.

Vampire Knight is available in English and Japanese with Subtitles.

Movie Night: Dark Places

Review:

Dark Places

Libby Day was only eight years old when her family was brutally murdered in their rural Kansas farmhouse. Almost thirty years later, she reluctantly agrees to revisit the crime and uncovers the wrenching truths that led up to that tragic night.

Considering how much suspense and build up is added to the story of this movie I was kind of disappointed in the fact that the ending was so anti-climatic. Despite how long and drawn out the movie is it wasn't too bad.

Now Available Newsletter from Susan Mallery

Dear Reader,

THE FRIENDS WE KEEP is available today in trade paperback, ebook and audio!

I am completely fascinated by the everyday dramas in the lives of women. Whether I'm catching up with friends, or getting to know someone new, I just love the way we share intimate stories with each other of love and loss, the fears that keep us up at night, and the joys that keep us going another day. We women connect with each other at a soul-deep level…and those are the stories I like to write.

Nicole's story is pure romance. Wait until you see how she meets the man she's destined to love! Let's just say, it is most decidedly (and humorously) not love at first sight. Gabby's story is going to make all the moms and stepmoms out there catch their breath. This could happen to your family. Hayley's story is going to speak to all the women out there who want something that remains frustratingly out of reach. Is there ever a point where it makes sense to let go of a dream?

Gabby, Hayley, and Nicole will get into your heart, just like your real-life friends. You'll be there for them through the challenges, and you'll rejoice at the happiness they find. Click here to read an excerpt of THE FRIENDS WE KEEP!

If you haven't yet visited Mischief Bay, don't worry—THE FRIENDS WE KEEP is a standalone novel that can be read on its own. It's an excellent selection for book clubs because of the "what would you do," emotionally complex situations.

If your book club selects THE FRIENDS WE KEEP, and you'd like to chat with me about the book, please email my assistant at jenel@susanmallery.com. I'd love to hear what you think, and share some insight into my writing process.

Enjoy!

Susan
