About the Author

Lauren Jameson Lauren Hawkeye/ Lauren Jameson never imagined that she’d wind up telling stories for a living… though when she looks back, it’s easy to see that she’s the only one who is surprised. Always “the kid who read all the time”, Lauren made up stories about her favorite characters once she’d finished a book… and once spent an entire year narrating her own life internally. No, really. But where she was just plain odd before publication, now she can at least claim to have an artistic temperament.
Lauren lives in the Rocky Mountains of Alberta, Canada with her husband, toddler, pit bull and idiot cat, though they do not live in an igloo, nor do they drive a dogsled. In her nonexistent spare time Lauren can be found knitting (her husband claims that her snobby yarn collection is exorbitant), reading anything she can get her hands on, or sweating her way through spin class.

You can find Lauren on her website and on her facebook page, she loves to hear from her fans.

Switching into high gear……

At a friend’s lavish wedding, Harley McLain and her twin sister, Charity, meet sexy stock-car driver Cooper Brickman. The more reserved Harley is immediately smitten—until he hits on her twin. But Harley has had enough of being the “nice” girl, and after trading dresses with Charity, she seduces Cooper for a night of wild sex.

……ready for a hot lap.

What was supposed to be a one-night fling gets complicated when Cooper needs a nanny to look after his kid sister—and is convinced sweet, dependable Harley would be perfect for the job. She can’t resist the money—or Cooper’s hot bod. But when her deception is revealed, will it destroy her dependable image—or will he finally realize how sexy sweet can be?

Excerpt

Harley McLain felt like Cinderella at the ball. Well, without Prince Charming. So far the only man to pay her any mind at this wedding was the groom’s stepfather, who was thirty years her senior and blind drunk. But still, standing on the terrace looking down over the gardens of the beautiful Biltmore estate, at the wedding of the illustrious stock car driver Ty McCordle and his PhD bride, Imogen Wilson, Harley definitely thought the night was magic. There were a million twinkling lights strung across the enormous heated tents, and red and orange spotlights in a floral pattern lit up the side of the mansion to reflect the autumnal beauty of the mountains.
It was chilly outside in her cocktail dress, the November air brisk, leaves swirling across the stone floor, but Harley had wanted to take a minute to pause alone against the railing and appreciate the majesty of the mountains and the scene spread out before her. When her friend Eve Monroe had invited her to the wedding she had been reluctant to attend initially, knowing she would feel like an outsider in the racing crowd and being an add-on guest, having only met the bride and groom a few times. But Eve had insisted she needed a plus one, since Eve’s new husband Nolan wasn’t able to attend with her, which was actually a plus two because of Harley’s identical twin Charity being there as well. Now Harley was glad she had come just to experience the beauty of the estate inside the tent and out.

Besides, the groom had teared up when he had seen his bride appear on the stone steps of the mansion and descend towards him. That was worth the two hour drive from Charlotte, just to see that love wasn’t the fictional unicorn Charity was convinced it was, and Harley was starting to waver on herself. She didn’t want to be that girl who felt bitter, but she was starting to question why love seemed to come easily for everyone else but her. It felt like the last time she’d been on a date Christ had been on a potty chair. It had been that long, honest to goodness.

“Do you mind?” a masculine voice asked her, the air shifting as someone stepped in along side of her.

Actually, yes, she did, but that would be rude. Harley turned to give Mr. Whoever a polite smile and instead almost swallowed her tongue when she realized who it was. Cooper Brickman. Playboy driver. Good-looking as sin. The object of many a schoolgirl crush, including her own. And technically it wasn’t a schoolgirl crush, since Harley still got a little weak kneed every Sunday when Cooper climbed out of his car, and she was way past the classroom.

Now he was standing next to her on the terrace under the fairy lights, wearing a tux. She was no longer cold, that was for damn sure, though her nipples were suddenly standing at attention underneath her dress.

He was holding up a cigar and a lighter, asking her permission to fire it up.

Like she would say no to him. For any reason. Whatsoever. “Sure, go for it.”

“Thanks. I needed a breather. A break from all my dance moves.” He winked at her. “I’m Cooper, by the way.”

As if she didn’t know that. “Harley. Nice to meet you.”

“You, too.” He puffed on his cigar, expensive lighter clicking shut.

Harley thought the stoogie reeked like yesterday’s tire-kissed skunk, but she didn’t mind since when the hell when she ever going to get to stand next to Cooper again? Never. That’s when. She could have sex with him via osmosis. He didn’t even have to touch her. It was just enough that there was only six inches between them. It was like a virtual orgasm.

Sneaking a look over at him, she studied his profile. He was gorgeous, with a strong jaw, a narrow nose, rugged shoulders, and dark blond hair falling in his eyes. Beautiful, almost.

“Damn, beautiful, isn’t it?” he asked.

Harley started. “Huh?” Her heart started pounding overtime.

“The estate. I’ve never been here before. It’s amazing.”

Right. The gardens. Not him. Not her. Not this moment. “It is. The mountains are just beautiful. Our room has a view, but I guess every room has a view.”

“Our? You here with your husband?”

She was going to tell herself he cared whether or not she was single. “No. My twin sister.” Eve had gotten her own room because she didn’t like to share. At all.

“Y’all identical?” he asked, looking over at her curiously.

People always wanted to know that. They found the twin concept intriguing, for some reason. She nodded, used to the question. “Physically, yes. Otherwise, not so much.” Charity was the sexy sister. Harley was the serious one. Or at least that was the label everyone slapped on them because Charity was outspoken and fond of displaying her cleavage. Harley preferred the natural look, makeup free for the most point, and she preferred the girls to remain in her sweater, not catching air and creepy stares.

“I have a sister, too,” Cooper said. “She’s twelve. She just moved in with me and I think she might kill me, honestly. Been driving for twenty years and I have never felt at risk of dying, but it’s this kid that’s going to be the death of me, I’m telling you. It’s stressful as hell to be responsible for another human being.”

“I’m a nanny for a couple of pre-schoolers,” Harley told him. “I love kids. But I haven’t dealt with any pre-teens yet. You have my sympathy.”

“I’ll trade ya.”

She laughed. “That only works in reality shows.”

“Damn, so you mean this is real life?” He gave her a grin. “Shit. I’m screwed.”

“I’m sure your sister will settle down. Twelve is a tough age for a girl.” Harley remembered legs that were too long and a sudden painful awareness of boys.

“She’s had it really easy and really hard at the same time,” he said. “That doesn’t sound like it makes sense, but it’s the truth. I want to do right by her. But I don’t always know what I’m doing. Actually, I don’t know what I’m doing at all.”

The laughter had left his voice and Harley heard the sincerity, the worry, in his voice, which she respected. It did her heart good to hear that he cared so much about his sister. To her, he’d always just been the cocky grin jumping out of the seventy-eight car, sexy and confident.

But then he shook his head. “And I have no idea why I am boring you with my troubles. You just have one of those faces. Makes me feel confessional.”

She did. Everywhere Harley went people wanted to overshare with her. The bank teller spilled about her divorce, the dental hygienist confessed to an affair, the man behind her in line at the grocery voiced his fears over his upcoming surgery. She was used to it and didn’t mind, for the most part.

Though she did wish, on occasion, someone would ask her how she was doing. If people would see her as a woman, a potential friend or lover, instead of just a sounding board. That was not going to be tonight, apparently.

Before she could even respond, Cooper continued. “Maybe you could give me some professional advice. Can I grab you a drink and bend your ear?”
Harley could think of many, many things she would rather do with her evening. And many, many things she’d rather do with Cooper Brickman. There was no way she could say no though. Because it was Cooper Brickman. And the truth was, she probably wouldn’t say no to anyone. It was a problem she had, not saying no. Maybe that was why people shared their TMI with her all the time. They read her correctly that she wouldn’t shut them down.

“Sure, of course. I’d be happy to.” Harley figured she’d be able to gaze at will on the picture of hot he presented in that tux while she murmured appropriate words of understanding for five minutes. Then maybe they could move on from the topic of his sister to the topic of her desire to see him naked.

Forty-five minutes later Harley opened her mouth for the ninth time or so to speak, but Cooper didn’t seem to notice. He was too busy venting what must be about a decades worth of anger and anxiety and didn’t seem to require any response other than an occasional nod from her. It was worse than she had expected. It was like any warm body would do, and she was it.

“Our mother is in the south of France with a twenty-two year old boyfriend, though I use that term loosely, and my sister is staying with me for a few weeks until she gets back. But you know what will happen, don’t you?”

“No.” She had absolutely no idea whatsoever.

“She won’t come back for months. Mark my words. Who ditches their daughter like that?” Cooper stuck his finger out and lifted his glass of whiskey. “A selfish woman, that’s who. I love my mother but she doesn’t always have her priorities in order.”

Harley was going to give some kind of pat answer, because she did feel bad for his sister, but Cooper kept talking.

“What if Mary Jane starts her period or something? What am I supposed to do about that?”

“Uh…” Harley felt as appalled as he looked. He took another deep, bracing swallow of his whiskey.

“And my housekeeper said she needs a bra, which maybe she does. I don’t know. I’m not going to look! But how the hell do I deal with that? I cannot take her bra shopping. I’m thirty-five. She’s twelve. That’s fucking weird, pardon my language.”

Good Lord. Harley wanted another drink. “It is a little odd. But she’s your sister, not a random kid you have no relation to. It’s perfectly acceptable. Just take her to the store and hand her over the clerk.”

“That’s all anyone ever does with her- hand her over. No wonder the kid is seeking validation online.” He flagged down a passing waiter. “Can I get another Jack and Coke?” He peeled two twenties out of his pocket. “And a vodka tonic for the lady.”

It would never have occurred to Harley to have the waiter fetch and carry for her. It was an open bar, which to her meant drinks were delightfully free, but you got it yourself. But she wasn’t a rich and famous driver, who had staff, and clearly he expected that if he wanted a drink, he didn’t have to stand up. For a minute Harley was distracted by the thought of what life would be like if she were rich. If Prince Charming really swept her away to a world she no longer had to be concerned that the sum total of her net worth was seven dollars the day before payday.

“Thanks, man,” Cooper told the waiter with a smile. “I appreciate it.”

Harley appreciated it too. In fact, that drink couldn’t arrive fast enough. This was surreal and bizarre.

When it did she sucked her vodka tonic down in record time, though not as fast as Cooper made his whiskey disappear.

He was leaning forward, forearms on his thighs, his knees bumping hers. A casual observer might think they were having an intimate conversation.
Which maybe they were, just not the kind of intimacy Harley was looking for.

“Where do you live?” he asked suddenly.

“Charlotte.”

“And you’re a nanny?” he asked, a little longingly.

Oh, no, she saw where this was going. “Yes. I work for a cardiologist and a therapist. They have two boys, two and four.”

“I don’t suppose you’re looking for a new position?”

He gave her a charming smile, one that made her want to kiss him repeatedly and give him everything he asked for. Except for that. There was no way she was going to quit a job she loved to monitor the Internet activity of his tween sister and go on maxi-pad runs when puberty well and truly hit.

Trying to channel her sister and the fact that Charity would direct the conversation to where she wanted it to go, Harley gave him a smile and went for an innuendo. “It depends on the position. Some I like more than others.”

That was pretty damn good for her.

But Cooper didn’t pick up on the flirt, probably because she sucked at it.

He just frowned. “Technically, I guess it would be considered a nanny position. I know that sounds odd since she’s twelve and that’s a little old for a nanny, but that’s really what she- and I- need.”

Sigh. She tried to give herself a mental pep talk. He was distraught. Possibly drunk. It wasn’t that she had a complete lack of sexual appeal. “No, I’m sorry. I’m quite happy there and I couldn’t leave the boys.”

“Damn. You seem like you’d be great at it.”

Under other circumstances it would be nice to be appreciated for a job well done. Right now, unless that job involved her riding him like the bull down at the Buckle bar, she didn’t need a compliment. She didn’t need polite and professional respect. She wanted to be seen as a sexual feast he couldn’t wait to take a bite of.

“You seem very maternal and stable.”

Yeah. What every twenty-eight year old woman in a cocktail dress wants to hear.

Suddenly Harley felt monstrously depressed.

It was the same old story. She was a scullery maid in the eyes of every man under fifty.

Even the fact that he was good looking wasn’t making up for the fact that her ass was going numb from sitting in the chair on the edge of the dance floor stiffly or that her stomach was growling from hunger, her lips chapped. She desperately needed to use the restroom as well since she’d sucked down the two vodka tonics he’d gotten her, but wasn’t sure how to interrupt him without sounding like a jerk or like she was trying to ditch him.

Which was just the most hilarious of ironies. Her trying to ditch Cooper Brickman? Not how she imagined the evening going if she ever had his hotness all to herself. But even his muscles couldn’t alter the fact that her bladder was going to burst, and she felt about as desirable as Mrs. Doubtfire. She just wanted to pee then hit the dessert table for some sugary comfort.

When “Single Ladies” came blaring out from the speakers and the DJ announced the bride was about to throw her bouquet, Harley lifted her head. If she knew her sister, she would be out there knocking down every bridesmaid she could for the honor of having a random man feel up her leg for the garter deposit. Charity had no interest in the men or marriage, she just wanted to win. Plus possibly prove that catching a bouquet in no way guaranteed a proposal.

As Imogen, slim and elegant in her lace gown, moved to the front of the stage area, Harley’s sister didn’t let her down, appearing out of nowhere and grabbing her.

“Come on! Single ladies, front and center. That means you, Harley!”

As she tugged her arm and Harley stood with an apologetic look at Cooper, her sister realized who she was talking to. “Oh. Hello. Are you going to be vying for the garter, handsome?”

Cooper, who had been earnest and serious, suddenly looked like a rooster let loose in the hen house. He gave Charity a sly smile. “I hadn’t planned on it, but if you catch the bouquet I may have to rethink that.”

Seriously? Harley got him telling her about his concern over his sister’s impending puberty, and Charity got flirty Cooper? What the hell was fair about that? They looked exactly the same. They were identical twins.

She clearly had no sex appeal. Zero. Less than zero. Negative sex appeal.

Annoyed, she didn’t even try to catch the bouquet, preferring to stay a bit clear of the melee, sneaking side glances at Cooper, who was watching Charity. Unfortunately, watching Cooper meant she wasn’t watching the bouquet.

It hit her in the head.

Then bounced off and fell right into her twin’s hands, who let out a whoop of triumph.

Damn it all anyway.

Ann Mayburn Exquisite Danger Cover Reveal

COVER REVEAL FOR....
Exquisite Danger
(Iron Horse MC Series #2)

by

Ann Mayburn

Ann Mayburn began the Iron Horse MC Series with Exquisite Trouble. The books are rated for the NA genre, however I feel it should be in the Adult/Erotica category, and I suggest starting with the first book since its a two part story readers are left on a cliff hanger in the first and their introductions are made in the beginning.

Book #1

Before I met Smoke I'd never been kissed, really kissed, by a man, let alone a biker sex god bent on taking my virginity and my heart.
I got dragged into the deadly world of the Iron Horse MC by my crazy twin sister who is engaged to the club's President and even crazier mom who only cares about herself. Smoke has been assigned by the club to keep me safe even though he's everything that I should be afraid of. He's the kind of man who lives by his own rules and does whatever he wants whenever he wants, but he treats me like I'm something rare and precious, not a socially dysfunctional basket case who has no idea how to love, but needs him more than her next breath.

Not that my feelings matter, because if we don't find my mother soon, the only thing I'll have to be worried about is who is going to kill me first.

Now that I've introduced you to the first book in the series, time for the reveal of her second book....

Book #2

For the first time in my life I know what it’s like to be completely and truly adored by a man who loves me for exactly who I am, a high functioning autistic with more personality quirks than there are stars in the Texas Hill Country night sky.

Some people think my boyfriend, Smoke, is a total biker psycho, a natural born killer who will destroy anyone who threatens what he considers his. They wouldn’t be wrong, but he’s so much more than that. He’s my dark salvation, my beloved fallen angel who is trying with all of his wicked heart to save me from what seems like an entire world bent on either killing me or a fate worse than death.

We’re headed to the Denver, Colorado chapter of the Iron Horse MC, chasing after my narcissistic, junkie mother who decided to steal from some very bad men leaving her two daughters behind to pay the price for her betrayal. My twin sister, Sarah, old lady to the Iron Horse MC president, is looking for my mother as well, but Sarah’s gone rogue and has no one to guard her back which worries me deeply. To further complicate matters, there are traitors in the Iron Horse MC who are working with my mother, not only helping her to escape but also informing my enemies of my every move.

The odds are stacked against me, but I will do whatever is necessary to protect those I love, and with Smoke at my side, I just might make it out of this mess alive.

Because you saw it here, you get a sneak snippet!

Exquisite Danger:

Chapter One

Swan

The burning Texas sun set over the distant hills in spectacular bursts of amethyst, cardinal red, and tangerine while a warm breeze moved over my skin like a caress. It was late summer nights like these, idyllic evenings when laughter and the smell of cooking food filled the air, that made me regret ever leaving the raw beauty of the Texas hill country. I took a long pull from my cold beer and gazed across the yard to where my amazing man, Smoke, stood talking with my good friend Indigo’s parents, Ron and Bettie, an older Asian couple. They looked like a couple of tie-die-wearing hippies that time had forgotten while Smoke seemed all the more dark and dangerous standing with them, like some kind of post-apocalypse War Barron…an apex predator. Except right now he looked like an amused predator conversing with two earnest chipmunks.

Ron and Bettie were actually pretty sane for preppers, but they’d talk your ear off about ‘the man’ if you gave them half a chance, and I wondered if Smoke was perplexed or amused by them. I know Indigo thought they were just batshit crazy; they drove her nuts with their ever evolving list of people they swore were trying to kill them. Funny thing was, the more you listened to them the more you started to believe that their weird conspiracy theories might have a ring of truth to them.

Memories of nights spent at Indigo’s compound flitted through my mind like sheets of paper caught in a windstorm as the years peeled back. Ron and Bettie were more than a little odd, but they treated me like one of their own and were two of the few people I trusted on sight. They were close with my parents and would often come over to play cards on our big, screened-in back porch and laugh about the world going to hell. A bolt of melancholy tightened my chest as I realized how much I missed them…though right now I was far more interested in my man than my friend’s parents.

Poor Smoke, he actually looked like he was really thinking about what they were saying with a slightly bemused smile curving his lips. Considering Ron and Bettie were conspiracy theorists he was probably getting an earful about the Vagrants, an evil political entity Ron and Bettie believed was slowly taking over the world. That was why they’d decided to stop watching cable TV. They swore mind control devices had been implanted by the Vagrants inside of cable boxes and got all their news off the Internet instead from websites of people who’s wacked out political views made Ron and Bettie look sane.

Indigo had a touch of their paranoia, but she was one of the best private investigators in the country at twenty-one so maybe that wasn’t a bad thing.

I had to laugh at myself as I watched my big, badass biker boyfriend talking with them in their faded tie-dye clothing. I swear they were roughly half his massive size, and his commanding presence made them seem even smaller. Smoke’s fist was nearly as big as Ron’s head, and the memory of those big hands on me sent rather pleasant sparks of pleasure dancing through my body.

Yum.

From the top of his head covered in curly black hair to his sexy feet—no, seriously, the man even has gorgeous feet—he was one hundred percent mine. The good and the bad. Sometimes I saw a hint of true darkness in him, the dispassionate gaze of a killer, and it scared me and aroused me at the same time. But if Smoke was the king of the jungle, I was his queen, and I had a touch of darkness myself. We were an odd couple, to be sure, but beneath our skin our hearts beat to the same savage rhythm.

Even though my sex was still sore from the hard fuck he’d given me last night I craved him to the point where I planned on throwing myself on him and tearing off his clothes the first second we were alone. When he’d taken my virginity he woke a hunger in me that bordered on ravenous. I wanted to devour him, to lock us away in my bedroom and make him give me pleasure until I passed out. I knew how good those perfect, full lips of his felt wrapped around my nipples and how his big hands could hold my body still while he bit me with little stinging nips that set my body ablaze.

He was just such a big, solid man all over. Including his magnificent cock with the piercing beneath the base that rested against his balls. A shiver raced down my spine and settled between my hips as I imagined how that wonderful bit of metal would hit my clit just right while fucking doggy style. Another wave of heat sensitized my pussy and I shifted, somehow drawing his attention to me past all the other people at the big party to where I stood leaning against a tree and watched the festivities around me..

When his dark gaze met mine I swore the world hushed for a moment, nothing existed except my pounding heart and his handsome face. The setting sun hit his cheekbones and his bold, Aztec nose just right, turning him into the living statue of a warrior. Without even trying he enchanted me and my knees weakened to the point where I had to brace myself against the tree. I was spellbound by his dark gaze, completely ensnared by his raw, masculine beauty.

That was the only way I could describe my feelings for him, that he wove some type of magical enchantment over me that held me in ethereal bondage, draining my will and replacing it with his. I gladly surrendered to him, and my breath caught at the flare of passion between us as he casually rubbed his lips while pretending to listen to Bettie yammer on about the world ending.

Despite the fact that I wore a pair of faded jeans and a black tank top with a pair of my beat up old boots, he stared at me like I was nude and had been rubbed down with oil, cranking my overwhelming arousal even higher. I didn’t like getting turned on with my parents around—it was weird—but at the same time, I loved the way the heat built between us until I was melting with it. If he slipped his long, rough fingers between my legs right now he’d find me slick with desire.

I had to tighten my grip on my beer bottle, suddenly certain that it would slip from my useless grip as my heart raced when he began to make his way across the yard to me. Yelling children ran past him while people eating burgers and ribs tried to get his attention, but he avoided the kids and ignored the adults. His attention was focused totally on me and I couldn’t help the goofy smile hurting my cheeks as he came closer. Elation filled me and I took a step away from my tree, then another, eager to bask in his presence like a cat in a patch of sunlight on a cold winter day.

When Smoke gazed at me like this I knew I was the center of his universe. He looked at me in a way no one ever had, like I was more important than air and the most beautiful thing he’d ever seen. I would never, ever get tired of the way Smoke watched me. Putting a little swing in my hips I stepped up beneath the green leaves of the old tree until the toes of my battered cowboy boots were touching his black motorcycle boots. The scent of summer filled the air around us, the sun-baked earth mixing with the sharp spice of the fire and the sweet darkness of barbeque. He smelled really, really good, a hint of sweat mixed with sun-warmed skin and his soap. He’d actually brought a bar of his personal soap with him and insisted on washing me with it when we shared a shower this morning. He really, really got off on me smelling like him. Not that I was complaining, being bathed by Smoke was a decadent experience and one of the best ways in the world to greet the day.

I looked up and brushed a strand of hair from my face while we stared at each other like love-besotted fools. Tonight I actually wore my high maintenance hair down and loose at Smoke’s request. I was constantly moving it off my face, which was annoying, but totally worth every bit of irritation when Smoke ran his fingers through the long strands with a look of pure satisfaction. He cupped my cheek, leaned down and rubbed his nose along mine, then brushed a soft kiss over my lips. Even that modest touch made my skin tingle, and I sighed against his mouth, pressing my body against his even as I kept my hands at my side. If I touched him I’d either grab his magnificent ass or run my fingers through his dark, silken curls while hauling his mouth to mine in a rather wanton display that would be totally inappropriate in front of my neighbors.

The slightest hint of his tongue brushed my lips and I groaned softly, stealing a taste of him before he lifted his head and grinned down at me, still stroking my cheek in a hypnotizing rhythm. I knew I was the only person who ever got to see the soft, tender side of Smoke and I relished his open affection for me. In the world of the Iron Horse MC, where he was the Master at Arms for the founding chapter, Smoke was feared, and with good reason. I’d witnessed him losing his temper when we first met, and the pure rage he put off scared me. Even back then he’d been oddly attuned to my every need and had immediately calmed himself when he saw that his anger scared me.

“Hey, beautiful baby,” Smoke said with a rough purr in his voice. “You tryin’ to get your daddy to shoot me?”

I laughed, very aware of my father glaring at Smoke from where he sat at a picnic table near the fire pit. A hint of unease moved through me; my dad could very well be considering how to end the life of my much older boyfriend. Or, as Smoke liked me to call him, my man. Even my dad’s disapproval couldn’t quell the need coiling inside of me, and I slipped my hands into Smoke’s and gave a soft squeeze. Out of the corner of my eye, I watched Mimi sit down on my dad’s lap and he glared at her for a second before his lips curved into a reluctant smile and his eyes filled with warmth. They were true soul mates and I was happy for them, happy to have been blessed with parents who could show me what true love meant.

“No, I don’t want my dad to shoot you. He might hit something important. Something I really like.” I bumped my hips to his, the press of his big erection against my body sending a shiver of electric desire down my spine and straight to my clit. Fuck, knowledge was a dangerous thing. Before Smoke I’d been totally inexperienced and I had no idea how good sex could be. I have this issue with people touching me, a sensory issue combined with a fear of strangers, and before Smoke I’d never met a man who could touch me like he could. My body belonged to him from the very start and I loved the way he made me feel.

It would be nice to relax with Smoke, once we found my sister and my mom, then keep the Mafia, the Russians, and the Los Diablos MC from killing me. Once this was all over I wanted to spend a solid week in bed with Smoke, fucking each other senseless. My body hummed with arousal and I rubbed against him again, unconsciously seeking the relief I knew he could give me, and the ability to escape my worries and fear that I could only find in his arms.

His deep chuckle vibrated against my breasts. “What naughty things are you thinking about? Is it about my tongue in your pussy, or my cock?”

I frowned up at him, trying to ignore the way my lady bits were now throbbing. Damn he had a sexy ass voice, all deep and growly. Male, primal, hot. “How do you know I’m thinking about sex?”

“Because you do these long, slow bites on your lower lip when you’re getting turned on. When I see those pretty white teeth sinking into one of my favorite places to kiss I know you’re thinking about me touching you. I could fuck you for days at a time, satisfy you until you don’t know your own name, but now is not the time or place so stop being so fuckin’ sexy. You’re killin’ me.”

I sighed and wrapped my arms around his waist, resting my cheek against his chest with a low sigh. “I was just thinking that it will be nice to go home when this is over…and touching you.”

He made a happy sound and pulled me tight against him, his arms solid as a tree trunks wrapping around me and holding me close. “I can’t wait to get you home either.”

COMING SOON!

Introducing... Ann Mayburn

Ann is Queen of the Castle to her wonderful husband and three sons in the mountains of West Virginia. In her past lives she's been an Import Broker, a Communications Specialist, a US Navy Civilian Contractor, a Bartender/Waitress, and an actor at the Michigan Renaissance Festival.

She also spent a summer touring with the Grateful Dead-though she will deny to her children that it ever happened.

From a young age she's been fascinated by myths and fairytales, and the romance that often was the center of the story. As Ann grew older and her hormones kicked in, she discovered trashy romance novels. Great at first, but she soon grew tired of the endless stories with a big wonderful emotional buildup to really short and crappy sex.

Never a big fan of purple prose, throbbing spears of fleshy pleasure and wet honey pots make her giggle, she sought out books that gave the sex scenes in the story just as much detail and plot as everything else-without using cringe worthy euphemisms. This led her to the wonderful world of Erotic Romance, and she's never looked back.

Now Ann spends her days trying to tune out cartoons playing in the background to get into her 'sexy space' and has learned to type one handed while soothing a cranky baby.

Where you can find Ann....

Stop by and see her! She loves to hear from her fans!

Bound to Danger

At a benefit dinner, community activist Maria Cervantes overhears two men plotting a terrorist attack that could rock Miami to its core. But before she can alert authorities, she’s almost killed in a massive explosion—and wakes up in a hospital with no memory of what happened. As the sole survivor of the attack, she is now a person of interest to the NSA—and especially to Agent Cade O’Reilly. Because Maria is the one woman Cade has never been able to forget.

Years ago, they were closer than either was willing to admit—until Cade disappeared when Maria needed him most. Now he’s sticking by her, whether she likes it or not. Because the memories locked inside her mind could hold vital clues to the next attack. Because terrorists want her dead—and because he never wants to let her go again.

Excerpt:
It was impossible to believe that someone wanted her dead. But a couple of days ago she would have said it was impossible that someone could get away with such a horrific act of terror in her city, or that her mother would have died in a terrorist attack. When her brother had died in Afghanistan, it was one of the hardest things she’d ever had to deal with. But their family had always known that his death was a possibility. Someone didn’t go to a war zone without that knowledge. The way her mom was killed was too surreal.
And Cade was right. There was no solid reason for a terrorist to be hiding out in her hospital room other than malicious intent. “If you’re my shadow, what does that mean? I have a lot of things to take care of, including dealing with my mom’s funeral.” Her throat tightened at the thought, but at least she didn’t break down into tears again.
“Consider yourself in my protective custody. I’ll basically be your chauffer and bodyguard.” There he went again with that tone she couldn’t read. Everything about him was hard to read. He barely moved when he spoke, keeping his body rigid and under control.
The man in front of her would never be anyone’s chauffer, and something told her he would consider bodyguard duty more like babysitting. But the surprisingly subtle look he raked over her told her he didn’t exactly view being her shadow as a chore. She could tell he liked what he saw, even though he was trying not to show it. For just a brief moment, his green eyes filled with something that looked a lot like desire.
For her.
It was hard to be sure, but she’d been on the receiving end of an appreciative male look enough times to recognize it. Maria was surprised she could feel anything other than grief, but a ribbon of awareness curled through her before his gaze completely shuttered, blocking her out again.
Just as he’d cut her out of his life eight years ago.
Shoving those thoughts from her mind, she went over her options. If someone wanted her dead, being guarded by an NSA agent was smart. Not to mention that nagging feeling in her gut. She wasn’t sure what it was, but it wouldn’t go away. Maria rarely ignored her instincts. So many people did and it was often a huge mistake.
Sighing, she nodded as she pushed up from her desk. “Fine. Nash drove me here, so I need to let him know I’m leaving with you. I need to drop by my house to pick up some things before heading to my parents’ home. You can ask all the questions you want on the way. Maybe something will break through,” she muttered, frustrated with herself that such a huge block of time was missing from her memory. It was scary not to be able to remember. She also had some questions for Cade and hoped she found the courage to ask them.
“Don’t push yourself too hard,” he said softly. “Give yourself time. Your memories might come back.”
“I hope so.” The door opened before she could say anything else and Nash paused in the doorway.
His gaze zeroed in on Cade as the two men more or less sized each other up. The dislike between them was so vivid it surprised her since they hadn’t known each other before today.
“Nash, I need to go with . . . Mr. O’Reilly to answer some questions.” Saying Cade seemed too familiar somehow even if they had been friends at one time. “There’s been a . . .” She struggled to find the right words, still trying to swallow the fact that a terrorist had been in her hospital room.
Cade took care of it for her. “I’m going to be guarding Maria from this point forward. She’s of interest to the NSA and we feel she needs our protection. Nothing about her schedule will change, but I will be with her twenty-four-seven.” His expression was almost challenging as he spoke to Nash.
Her friend was no better, his glare cutting. “Of interest? What the fuck does that mean?” He stepped into the room, a foot from Cade as they faced off.
Maria didn’t feel like explaining everything to Nash right now. Not when she just wanted to get her belongings and go see her dad. He should have landed and would be home soon. Even though she was dreading going to her parents’ home, she needed to be there. Stepping between them, she placed her hand on Nash’s forearm. “Nash, just let me go with him and get these questions out of the way. If I can somehow help find who killed my mom, I’m going to.” Saying the words made her feel stronger. She might be torn up inside, but she desperately wanted to help if she could. She wanted justice for everyone who had been ruthlessly killed.
It was clear Nash wanted to argue, but he nodded tightly. “Fine. I’ve got my cell if you need me.”
Yeah, he definitely wanted to say more. He shot Cade an almost threatening look before stepping out of her office.
Both men hovered behind her, making her feel awkward as she locked up. The walk down the quiet hallways until they reached the side exit was even more awkward, the tension excruciating. The exit door automatically locked behind her. One of the volunteers or employees would have a key card to get back in if necessary, but after a certain time of day the locks were set to stay closed for the safety of everyone.
Maria kept pace with Cade, following him to a black SUV with tinted windows. Nash headed for his vehicle but waited until she and Cade pulled out of the parking lot before leaving. She also noticed that her home address was already programmed into Cade’s GPS—which told her he’d planned on her cooperation. She wasn’t sure if that should annoy her or not.
“I’m sorry, he’s just worried about me, that’s all,” Maria said into the relative quiet of the SUV. Normally she didn’t feel the need to fill silences or apologize for anyone, but she did now. After the way she’d run from the hospital—though now she was thankful she had—then Nash’s hostile behavior, she wanted to smooth things over with Cade. If they were going to be spending any amount of time together, things had to be civil.
“He’s more than just worried about you,” he said, his voice wry. “And no more Mr. O’Reilly.”
“I know, I don’t know why I called you that.” It was just as lame as she’d accused him of being in that hospital room. She shifted against the leather seat, staring out the window at the passing traffic. Dusk had fallen and the city was bright and vibrant with life. It was just another seemingly normal night in Miami, but nothing would ever be normal again. “So, what questions do you have for me?”
“Why were you at the Westwood party and how did you get there?”
She was fairly certain he already knew the response to both those questions, but she answered anyway. “Bayside Center depends on donations. So that’s the main reason I was there. And Nash, who you must know works for my parents, drove me. I was sick for days and was too weak to drive, but I needed to attend the party.”
Cade was silent for so long she turned away from the window to glance at him. He had a strong profile, a chiseled jaw that was so defined it seemed almost unreal. It was as if the man had literally been cut from stone and molded into flesh and bone. Absolute perfection. Finally he spoke, but his question surprised her. “What is Nash to you?” His voice was rough, uneven.
She frowned. “I already told you he works for my parents. Well, just my dad now.” And that knowledge cut so deep it drew blood. “But he’s my friend. Why?” Cade couldn’t think Nash was involved with anything, could he? The two men had looked at each other as if they’d wanted to rip each other to shreds.
“Were you two ever involved?”
A burst of anger erupted inside her. “Are you kidding me? How is that important?”
He shrugged in what he might have hoped was an apologetic gesture—though probably not—and shot her a hooded look as they pulled up to a stoplight. Yeah, there was nothing apologetic in his eyes. Just a simmering . . . heat. Right below the surface.
Annoyance and awareness battled inside her for dominance. Her annoyance won out. “You don’t get to ask me questions like that. Ever.” At one time he would have been justified but not now. Not when it had nothing to do with the terrorist attack.
Gritting his teeth, he turned back to the road and she forced herself to look away from his profile—and to ignore the strange butterflies in her stomach.

Whats new with CJ Ellison

Image

Reading Roll Call: My readers recommended the Chicagoland Vampire series by Chloe Neil and I've
been seriously digging it! Thank you for the suggestion. I love the characters and storyline.
And yes, I see a lot of similarities in her world and mine. Very cool!
Appearances: I'm away at Authors After Dark (AAD) right now and am thrilled to meet so many
readers! And some are even in my street team! Being at cons like this one is pretty freakin' fantastic.
The energy and atmosphere really buoy you up, reminding you there are people who read all the
same things you do, also like to dress up at events, and are generally like-minded individuals.
My six and a half hour drive down to Charlotte with my car packed to the roof with stuff wasn't so
great, nor was the speeding ticket I collected on the way, but hey, such is life. If you've ever
considered coming to a reader event, I strongly suggest checking out AAD in Atlanta next year.
You won't regret it!

The book signing on Saturday from 1-4pm is open to the public, and there are over 100 authors in
attendance. We're in the ballroom on the second floor of the Westin downtown. If you can make it,
please stop by and say hello - I'd love to meet you!

New Release News:
Nine Titles. Nine Authors. Nine heroines that take names-and chances-while

confronting dark foes, whether by force of arms or magic, that threaten their entire world.
Over two thousand pages of epic reading await! Let the adventures begin.

Online Parties: All nine authors from the new release will be at a kick-ass
Facebook party on Aug 12th. If you're around and want a chance at great prizes, we'd love to see
you!
Sales:  Vanilla Twist is currently on sale for 99 cents until August 16th. If you enjoyed it and have
a friend that would, please consider sharing the news and links with them. Or better yet, buy it as
a gift and surprise them! I bet it'll be the best 99 cent gift they ever received. ;-)

Street Team: We had over fifty newsletter subscribers ask to join - thank you for your interest and
continued support! These readers help promote my work the most and I'm grateful for the time
they spend chatting with me in the group and fulfilling the "missions" posted.
Book Club:  We've got authors stopping by and books up for discussion - and all sorts of socializing
going on. I'm glad we're getting an active online group together! There are authors signed up for
the next two months to give away books in exchange for reviews - be sure to stop by often so you
don't miss a thing.

Random $10 gift card winners: I only had one winner contact me last month, and while waiting
for others to respond I disappointed her with my continuous delay. Just like I messed up the previous
month, too. I'm going to stop doing these and only offer stuff Pauli can handle for me because it's
obvious I can't manage it all.
Girls Night Out Vegas Event: It's with heavy heart I announce the event scheduled for Sept 25-27, 2015
has been cancelled. The author member who volunteered to make the website decided to drop out of
the event, and then held the website hostage unless we paid her. A year's worth of work and I finally
had to pull the plug. Too many conflicting personalities and drama month to month, it just wasn't
 worth it.

The good news: I have so much GNO inspired stuff at my house that I hope to be able to do a GNO
party at every convention I go to, if the con organizers allow it. We're doing a big one at AAD and
plan to post pictures on the FB Event throughout the live party tomorrow night.

Wishing you all a great month!
~ C.J.
