Riot (Scarred Souls #4) by Tillie Cole

Review:

Stolen by the Arziani Georgian crime mob as a child, 152 was raised and conditioned to be a Mona—the most subservient of the Arziani Blood Pit slaves.

Gorgeous and kind, she has been and under the imprisoning influence of the Type B drug and under the command of the Blood Pit Master’s sister, Mistress Arziani, for most of her life, until the Master calls her back home to Georgia.

He wants her under his total control, and Master always gets what he wants.

But when 152 is gifted to the Blood Pit’s fearsome champion death match fighter as a prize, 152 suddenly finds out that the men who appear most brutal, may just own the kindest hearts. And love may be found, even when living in hell.

Freedom, family, love, 152 will have to fight for what she wants and ultimately make an impossible choice.

So there were some things I loved and some things that I didn't and there was something that nagged me through most of the book. One being that Riot sounded like something I'd already read. The previous books. It was too similar in the fact that I felt as if you could almost take the previous ones and fill in the blank and get the same story. The characters (or their personalities rather) didn't stand out as much as I wanted them to even though if I'm honest they were my favorite in this installment of the Scarred Souls series.

I felt as if there could have been more on the line more anticipation and more individuality to increase the stakes this far in and was hoping for the increase of build up but it only seemed like more of the same monotone leveling.

Another note that I had issue with is that the characters were so young, I wanted more maturity more wisdom out of them after all they'd been through yet I felt at that stage they didn't have as much a grasp on it as I was hoping they would. I don't know if that fault lays on me or the characters but I wasn't feeling it this time around.

I did like that 901 had so much more going on and so much more on the line yet I wish that we (myself or the readers) had gotten a more serious exploration on that front. The pit bull was putting up and risking his hand yet I felt like he wasn't really given his due.

In the end Riot was good and its still worth the read but it just didn't quite amp it up to meet the level of my expectations which had been building for quite awhile.
