When Dawg Mackay made his four half-sisters part of his family, he vowed that he would care for and protect them with everything he had. But what happens now that the girls are all grown up? The Mackay girls are on the loose, and Somerset County will never be the same…

Lyrica Mackay has wanted tall, handsome Marine Graham Brock for as long as she can remember. Unfortunately, Graham only sees her as his friend Dawg Mackay’s “baby sister.” Or so she believes. The truth is, the fiery party girl stirs something in Graham no female ever has. But Graham, like everyone in Somerset County, knows that trouble stalks the Mackays like bears track honey, and when a Mackay runs as hot as Lyrica does, someone’s bound to get burned.

Then Graham discovers that Lyrica’s wild side is just a cover for a frightened and vulnerable woman who needs something true and genuine, something only Graham can offer. But surrendering his heart to Lyrica exposes them both to her shocking past—and a sinister secret that, once exposed, could destroy their only chance at happiness and shake the Mackay family to its core.

Ms. Leigh dreams in bright, vivid images of the characters intent on taking over her writing life, and fights a constant battle to put them on the hard drive of her computer before they can disappear as fast as they appeared. Lora's family, and her writing life coexist, if not in harmony, in relative peace with each other.

Saturday's Featured Novel (6/7/13)

A Shiver of Light

  (Merry Gentry #9)

by

15734760

I am Princess Meredith NicEssus. Legal name Meredith Gentry, because “Princess” looks so pretentious on a driver’s license. I was the first faerie princess born on American soil, but I wouldn't be the only one for much longer...

Merry Gentry, ex–private detective, now full-time princess, knew she was descended from fertility goddesses, but when she learned she was about to have triplets, she began to understand what that might mean. Infertility has plagued the high ranks of faerie for centuries. Now nobles of both courts of faerie are coming to court Merry and her men, at their home in exile in the Western Lands of Los Angeles, because they will do anything to have babies of their own.

Taranis, King of Light and Illusion, is a more dangerous problem. He tried to seduce Merry and, failing that, raped her. He’s using the human courts to sue for visitation rights, claiming that one of the babies is his. And though Merry knows she was already pregnant when he took her, she can’t prove it.

To save herself and her babies from Taranis she will use the most dangerous powers in all of faerie: a god of death, a warrior known as the Darkness, the Killing Frost, and a king of nightmares. They are her lovers, and her dearest loves, and they will face down the might of the high courts of faerie—while trying to keep the war from spreading to innocent humans in Los Angeles, who are in danger of becoming collateral damage.

Branded

  (The Cavanaugh Brothers #1)

by

18812351

In the small town of River Black, Texas, sits the Triple C—a working cattle ranch that sustains the town. But it also holds painful memories and shocking secrets for the Cavanaugh brothers...

When the Cavanaugh brothers return home for their father’s funeral, they discover unexpected evidence of the old man’s surprising double life—a son named Blue, who wants the Triple C Ranch as much as they do. The eldest son, Deacon, a wealthy businessman who couldn’t wait to leave the ranch and move on with his life, is looking to use his powerful connections to stop Blue at any cost. He never expected the ranch’s forewoman, Mackenzie Byrd, to get in his way.

Mac knows Deacon means to destroy the ranch and therefore destroy her livelihood. But as the two battle for control, their attraction builds. Now Deacon is faced with the choice of a lifetime: Take down the Triple C to feed his need for revenge, or embrace the love of the one person who has broken down every barrier to his heart.

I loved romance surely, but I had never read a romance novel until my late teens. With that said, I remember the day I did like it was a moment ago - my aunt gave me the Jude Deveraux novel, Knight in Shining Armor and I couldn’t put it down until the very last word. Then I went straight to the library and got another – then another until I’d read everything she’d ever written. After that, it was McNaught, Howard, Schone, Kleypas, and the Silhouette line, Desire. I instantly loved those emotional, sexy reads, so much so that I began to carve out ideas for my own stories, themes that were unique to me and moved me.

In Case You Missed It....

We lost a wonderful woman and author.

Maya Angelou, 1928-2014

May 28, 2014:  Legendary author, poet, educator and all-around inspiration Maya Angelou has passed away at the age of 86.
103030_AngelouMaya_4As a chronicler of her own story and the larger civil rights movement in which she took part, Maya Angelou was remarkable in equal measure for her lyrical gifts as well as her distinct sense of justice, both politically and personally.
Angelou was among the first, if not the first, to create a literary franchise based on autobiographical writings. Beginning with the classic I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings and followed by Gather Together in My Name, Singin’ and Swingin’ and Gettin’ Merry Like Christmas, The Heart of a Woman, All God’s Children Need Traveling Shoes, and A Song Flung Up to Heaven — Angelou told her life story in language both no-nonsense and intensely spiritual.
More unforgettable works by Angelou include the personal essays in Wouldn’t Take Nothing for My Journey Now, Even the Stars Look Lonesome, and Letter to my Daughter, the reflective Mom & Me & Mom, cookbooks like Hallelujah! The Welcome Table and Great Food, All Day Long and even books for kids, including the adventuresome Maya’s World series.

Angelou’s facility with language, both on paper and as a suede-voiced speaker, made her a populist poet. Her 1995 poem “Phenomenal Woman” is still passed along the Web among women as inspiration (“It’s in the reach of my arms/The span of my hips/The stride of my steps/The curl of my lips./I’m a woman/Phenomenally/Phenomenal woman/That’s me”), and her 1993 poem “On the Pulse of the Morning” written for Bill Clinton’s presidential inauguration, was later released as a Grammy-winning album.
Angelou often cites other writers (from Kenzaburo Oe to James Baldwin) both in text and name. But as often as not, her major mentors were not writers — she had been set to work with Malcolm X and Martin Luther King Jr. before each was assassinated, stories she recounts in A Song Flung Up to Heaven.
Given her roller-coaster existence — from poverty in Arkansas to journalism in Egypt and Ghana and ultimately, to her destiny as a successful writer and professor in the States — it’s no surprise that Angelou didn’t limit herself to one or two genres. Angelou also wrote for stage and screen, acted, and directed. She is the rare author from whom inspiration can be derived both from her approach to life as from her talent in writing about it.
(Christina Nunez)
Good to Know
Angelou was nominated for an Emmy for her performance as Nyo Boto in the 1977 miniseries Roots. She has also appeared in films such as How to Make an American Quilt and Poetic Justice, and she directed 1998’s Down in the Delta.
Angelou spoke six languages, including West African Fanti.
She taught modern dance at the Rome Opera House and the Hambina Theatre in Tel Aviv.
Before she became famous as a writer, Maya Angelou was a singer. Miss Calypso is a CD of her singing calypso songs.

Statement from Dr. Maya Angelou’s Family:

Dr. Maya Angelou passed quietly in her home before 8:00 a.m. EST. Her family is extremely grateful that her ascension was not belabored by a loss of acuity or comprehension. She lived a life as a teacher, activist, artist and human being. She was a warrior for equality, tolerance and peace. The family is extremely appreciative of the time we had with her and we know that she is looking down upon us with love.

It's June!

Ah, its June already...
Summertime is heating up and the bookworms are out in the bookstores shopping droves preparing for their reading marathons out of the heat- or for the few who enjoy baking in the sun, poolside and beach side parties. With a few added friends of our own of course.
I'll be hanging out with friends like Joey Hill, Jaci Burton, Stephanie Tyler, Katie Reus, Rhyannon Byrd... And Many, many more.
I can't wait to dive in to whats new this summer from our sexy fav's list. I hope all you readers out there are getting through your TBR piles and are posting up your lovely reviews.
Its time to catch up for those that have fallen behind!
As for me, I already have plenty of books waiting for ratings.

The first book of June for me was Return to Her by Alexandra O'Hurley. A delicious morsel I know the rest of you will enjoy a taste of. Especially you men in uniform fans out there. You know who you are... ;)

Krissy's Bookshelf Facebook Group along with Krissy's Book Lovers Group is in full swing with plenty of new and free books for you to enjoy as well as quite a few fun events for all you book fans.
The Book Adoption Program has gone well. More than 32 books have found a new home and I will be restarting the group again in hopes that more books find a new home.
So if you have books that you're thinking of tossing or donating a book you aren't reading, didn't like or don't want to keep laying around cluttering up your bookshelves consider giving them to someone that you know will appreciate them.

Already my TBR pile is expanding and growing. On my list list of books to read for June are:

Keep me Closer by Rhyannon Byrd
Naughty Bits (Part II/III) by Joey Hill

Its been awhile...

Showing Gratitude.
Hello everyone hope you all have been well, I've been busy with life so I haven't had a lot of time to spend giving back to those who bless me so often.
Today I am reminded how grateful I am and how much more I need to show my appreciation to those around me.
So thank you everyone that has been there for me, has helped and supported me, has been a friend to me, a coach to me, a mentor, and given me your time when we are all caught up in our own lives.
I especially owe a giant thank you to all the wonderful authors that have given me a chance with their "babies" and allowed me to be a part of their projects.
Your worlds keep me going and through you I get to live a thousand lifetimes everyday. Thank you so much for taking a chance and allowing me to review your work and to feature you on my blog, and in the magazines I review for, and to allow me to pester you with questions and stalk you when I have the chance.

What's new for me and my reviews?

I am amazingly grateful to a wonderful author Kate Douglas who has been an absolute angel to me.
She is like the George Lucas/ Steven Spielberg of epicness to me. Kate has given me the opportunity to be a part of many of her fantastic worlds and I love every one of them.

I am so honored to find out that my blurb has been included in her book Dark Refuge. What an amazing gift!

I cannot begin to put into words my excitement and my joy and my sheer dumbfounded gratitude.

Kate Douglas is one of those authors that is always able to create worlds with impressive magnitudes and passion to match. She writes bravely and delves into places most authors don't date tread. I love it. I can never get enough of her books. I devour them when I get them and then I do it all over again for the sheer enjoyment. :)

Kate has written numerous books all so wonderful that its impossible to pick a favorite. Her most current book - Dark Refuge is the fourth book in her Spirit Wild series, and is currently in ebook/digital versions. However, for those of you that love to have it in your hands, print versions are soon to come!

Sweet!

You can find Dark Refuge at the listed locations:

Kate has posted a special notice about the coming print availabilities on her webpage. You can find it here. You can also read an excerpt here, and while you're at it, don't forget to follow her newsletter for the latest info.

Thank you everyone that continues to allow me to be a part of your creativity.
