Archangel's Heart (Guild Hunter #9) by Nalini Singh

Review:

Archangel's Heart - Nalini Singh

One of the most vicious archangels in the world has disappeared. No one knows if Lijuan is dead or has chosen to Sleep the long sleep of an immortal. But with her lands falling into chaos under a rising tide of vampiric bloodlust, a mysterious and ancient order of angels known as the Luminata calls the entire Cadre together to discuss the fate of her territory.

Accompanying her archangelic lover Raphael to the Luminata compound, guild hunter-turned-angel Elena senses that all is not as it seems. Secrets echo from within the stone walls of the compound, and the deeper Elena goes, the uglier the darkness. But neither Raphael nor Elena is ready for the brutal truths hidden within—truths that will change everything Elena thinks she knows about who she is…

Nothing will ever be the same again.

Heart breaking and tragic, a past with secrets that run deep come to light in Archangels Heart.

Although its not totally necessary I really do suggest reading this series from the beginning, it makes some of the revelations that come about in this book so much more worth it if you do. There's a lot of change in power and position dynamic.

The flirtations were cute and in all the lightness going on Singh really has good emotional depth in this book for both individuals and couples alike. I would have liked a book that wasn't another one of the repetitions Singh has a habit of doing but I did like that our couples are still going strong.

I wish we had a little more from the story as a whole in carrying toward the future and it was a tad angsty but it felt a little bit like stall out without much of a punch for the ending the upside is that there is a slight double layering between the character plot and change in structure which kept my interest but I liked the time we spent with Aod most which was fantastic.

There's a lot of complexity and ups and downs in this book but in the end I really enjoyed it.

Maverick (Taggart Brothers #3) by Lisa Bingham

Review:

Maverick (A Taggart Brothers Novel) - Lisa Bingham

Bodey has always followed his own rules: live hard, play hard, and win big.

But when his wild ways give him two concussions within a month of each other, his brothers lay down some new rules: no bronco busting, sky diving, or ATVs for the rest of summer. It seems the only pastimes not restricted are shooting competitions...and women.

Beth Tivoli is new to Bodey’s circle of friends, and unlike any woman Bodey has ever met—she isn't about to follow him into bed. She’s not looking to hook up with anyone, especially when she’s trying to escape her past. Bodey quickly realizes that courting Beth is no game, and despite her resolve, they both begin to discover that maybe romance can be different this time around.

Opposites attract...

When Beth is not avoiding food, she's flirting with Bodey and avoiding her past.

Bodey's masculinity and his down home easy care appeals to her but she has her own well of secrets that eventually catches up with her.

Maverick is actually a fairly good read however I didn't quite mesh with Beth as a person. It caused a little rift that I preferred to skip through at certain points just from how much it annoyed me. I still liked the emotional journey which made it all worth while.
