Post on "Bad Advice for Writers"

Funny article that includes such gems of bad advice as:

"There are only two types of reviews: the positive kind, and the kind where the reviewer didn’t understand the book. A bad review of your book is actually a cry for help!

Whenever you see a negative review that makes you say to yourself, “I should reach out to this person, perhaps in a borderline illegal fashion,” by all means do so. Find out where they live if you want! Show up on their doorstep and offer to politely explain how they simply failed to understand your novel. Make it clear that this is something they need to resolve within themselves and not a reflection on your work, and also that there’s no need whatsoever to call the police, so please put down the phone and stop crying."

Movie Night: The Secret Life of Pets

Review:

A terrier named Max's quiet life is upended when his owner takes in Duke, a stray, who Max instantly dislikes.

The Secret Life of Pets had a lot of really cute scenes not a whole lot of strength in the story line and an odd little scene that took place in a sausage factory that was just a tad strange. (Still trying to figure out why the musical sausage scene was even necessary...)

But all in all I thought it was a decent movie with a sweet ending for viewers young and heart and their children.

Side note: I would probably suggest movie goers save their money and wait to rent it instead of going to theaters to see it. It was good - just not that good.

Just What I Needed (Need You #2) by Lorelei James

Review:

Just What I Needed: The Need You Series - Lorelei James

Trinity Carlson might be having the worst day ever. And that was before she started drinking in a dive bar, right across from her ex and his new girlfriend. So when she finally decides enough is enough, she grabs hold of a hot, blond stranger and gives him the kiss of his life.

Walker Lund never expected that a chance at love would hit him right on the mouth. Since the moment his brother decided to settle down, Walker has been dodging his family’s hopes that he’ll do the same.  He’s never been interested in following in anyone’s footsteps. But when he discovers his sexy assailant has given him a fake name and number he suddenly finds himself in the mood for a little hot pursuit.

Man buns gross me out. However I couldn't not like Walker. Stubborn to a fault but he was likable on all the right levels.

He wasn't afraid to be who he wanted to be and wasn't afraid to take his own path instead of the one set out for him.

I especially liked him as a hero because who else than a guy who lives following his heart could a girl resist?

If you haven't read this book I totally suggest it. It won me over. :)

Break of Day (Exclusive Romance #2) by Mari Madison

Review:

Break of Day (An Exclusive Romance) - Mari Madison

Asher Anderson is an amazing surfer—with a body to match—but he’s pretty much the world’s worst weatherman. He’d prefer to catch the perfect swells in the morning so he tapes his forecasts in advance—it never rains much in San Diego anyway. The suits at News 9, however, would love to fire him, but since he’s the son of the station owner, they’ll just have to get creative...

Piper Strong thinks she’s scored her dream job when she’s promoted to weather producer. Glorified babysitter is more like it—she’s now responsible for bringing Asher back to shore. The problem is she’s afraid of the water, and she wasn’t counting on her growing attraction to Asher. But if Piper can just weather this storm, she'll be able to carve out a career to be proud of—and maybe even a place in her heart for love.

Reality check romance coming up. Piper and Asher are total opposites and Asher isn't really the kind of guy that feels for the hardships of others or anyone other than himself but Piper is one of the open heart feelers. She's the one who makes him realize that life isn't all about yourself.

I thought it was a really great lesson in committing your life to other people and better causes. It helped redeem Asher and change his self centered outlook on life.

An all around great read.
