My Life as a White Trash Zombie (White Trash Zombie #1) by Diana Rowland

Review:

My Life as A White Trash Zombie - Diana Rowland

Angel Crawford is a loser.

Living with her alcoholic deadbeat dad in the swamps of southern Louisiana, she's a high school dropout with a pill habit and a criminal record who's been fired from more crap jobs than she can count. Now on probation for a felony, it seems that Angel will never pull herself out of the downward spiral her life has taken.

That is, until the day she wakes up in the ER after overdosing on painkillers. Angel remembers being in an horrible car crash, but she doesn't have a mark on her. To add to the weirdness, she receives an anonymous letter telling her there's a job waiting for her at the parish morgue—and that it's an offer she doesn't dare refuse.

Before she knows it she's dealing with a huge crush on a certain hunky deputy and a brand new addiction: an overpowering craving for brains. Plus, her morgue is filling up with the victims of a serial killer who decapitates his prey—just when she's hungriest!

Angel's going to have to grow up fast if she wants to keep this job and stay in one piece. Because if she doesn't, she's dead meat.

Literally.

I'm not typically a fan of the zombie stuff, I don't like The Walking Dead, I don't follow the whole ghoul movement but I think Angel has finally won me over.

It did take me a few chapters before I gained reading momentum and actual interest but once I passed the fifth chapter mark I had a hard time putting it down.

Although I think that Angel may be one of the few zombies that I can say I can't wait to read more about I believe this was a great introduction to the brain eating, flesh rotting trend I am now a part of.

I think the only thing I didn't quite like was the resolution to Angels on going struggle with her alcoholic father however it did make it a tad easier to ease into as a one step forward and toward some kind of progress. I also appreciated that Rowland wasn't afraid to explore alcoholism and its effects and causes and the difficult balance and the thin line that family members of have to walk when dealing with those kinds of situations. Rowland handles it realistically, honestly and straight forward with respect.

All in all I felt that My Life As a White Trash Zombie was a really great read. I look forward to picking up book number two.

My Life As a White Trash Zombie is the first book in the White Trash Zombie series.
