Shadow Rider (Shadow #1) by Christine Feehan

Review:

Shadow Rider (The Shadow Series) - Christine Feehan

Whether it’s fast cars or fast women, Stefano Ferraro gets what he wants. When he’s not fodder for the paparazzi, he commands Ferraro family businesses—both legitimate and illegitimate.

While their criminal activity is simply a rumor yet to be proven, no one knows the real truth. The Ferraros are a family of shadow riders capable of manipulating light and dark, an ability Stefano thought ran in his family alone—until now…

With little left to her name, Francesca Cappello has come to Chicago in hopes of a new life. She wasn’t expecting to attract the attention of a man with primal hunger in his eyes, driven to claim her as his to protect and to please. And if he discovers her secret, it could ruin her.

My Review:

The end result as an introduction to a new series really fell short for me. It wasn't bad but it wasn't great and the thing I couldn't connect to most aside from Francesca and Stefano was the fact that the story itself through nearly the entire thing really didn't feel as if it could decide what it was it wanted to be. I didn't engage and wasn't drawn in until the last couple chapters and by then it was over. However the thing I did like most were the side characters, the sister, the brothers, and so on.

I do wish the Shadow world had been explored more and given more fleshing because that was supposed to be the main focus of this book and yet I felt as if much of it really wasn't given a whole lot of page time or development.

I did like that there was less hardcore sex, less abuse on the female partner at the hands of her male partner, and more focus on the story itself but it took me a long time to finish the book simply because it felt as if it dragged too much. I am curious about the brothers books and I will be reading them I just hope that our cast are more likeable, more alive, more animated and less numb and less robotic as they felt this time around and I also hope that we get a more established history on the Shadows and more Shadow development later on in the next installment. There is potential in this story somewhere and I hope that its found in the next book.
